THE MONSTER SQUAD comes back to the big-screen, thanks to The Prince Charles Cinema’s new “REintroducing…” scheme.
Fred Dekker’s cult horror-comedy gem THE MONSTER SQUAD (1987) returns to the big screen this November as part of the Prince Charles Cinema’s new “REintroducing…” series.
“REintroducing…”, set up by the programming team at the Prince Charles Cinema, aims to bring back lost & forgotten cult films by hunting down the theatrical rights which have been in limbo for years and teaming them with up newly discovered 35mm prints, giving them a second lease of cinematic life.
Paul Vickery, who will be heading up the ‘REintroducing…’ at Central London’s only Independent cinema, had this to say:
“As a film programmer, there is nothing more frustrating than having a film on your “must screen” list that has either been withdrawn or is just flat out unavailable. Most of the time you just have to accept it and move on, but with THE MONSTER SQUAD I couldn’t take no for an answer.
I knew that trying to get this film back on the big screen wouldn’t be easy, the theatrical rights were last co-owned by a company who no longer exists and for all we knew a workable 35mm print wasn’t even in the country. Thankfully everyone who we reached out to was hugely supportive and helpful and kept us on the right path.
After hundreds of emails and phone calls which spanned the globe, we managed to finally get to the results we’d been after and with that “REintroducing’ was born.
We couldn’t think of a better film to kick-start the new scheme off with than THE MONSTER SQUAD, thankfully we are able to do just that. Giving it it’s first public screening in 20 odd years”
