Iron Man 3 To Begin New Avengers Era

With the trailer reaching 10 million downloads in the space of 24 hours, it’s clear THE AVENGERS is one of the most anticipated cinematic releases of 2012. The superhero extravaganza has been teased in previous Marvel adaptations IRON MAN, THOR, and CAPTAIN AMERICA with post-credit sequences and that trend is set to continue in the ‘second phase of the Avengers initiative’.

Speaking at New York’s Comic-Con, producer Kevin Feige announced that handsome-douche-in-a-mechanical-suit sequel IRON MAN 3 will kick-start the next Marvel era with a new story arc for The Avengers. Asked if the studio would continue with their post-credits sequences, he stated:

‘It’s a nice tradition, and I like traditions, so I think we’ll keep that up,’ he commented, ‘[It] will be the first of what we sort of refer to as phase two of this…saga that will culminate, God willing, in AVENGERS 2.’

When questioned about THE AVENGERS running time, the producer revealed director Josh Whedon is still editing the film and the duration is up in the air. However, fans were given a glimpse at some exclusive footage which included Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow recruiting Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

THE AVENGERS features an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits cinemas May 2012.
