As the release of Steve McQueen’s shame has cinemagoers buzzing with excitement, talk of his third production is already going through the rumour mill.
The film, TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE, will be based on Solomon Northrup’s autobiography. Northrup was a free black man who, in 1841, was kidnapped and forced to into slavery for a decade. Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Northrup in the production.
However, the big news is that Brad Pitt is set to join the cast in an as-of-yet-unspecified role. Pitt is also on board as producer through his company Plan B. Michael Fassbender is also on board in another mystery role.
Is it possible that the pair are to play Merrill Brown and Abram Hamilton, the two men responsible for Northrup’s kidnap? Details at present are sparse, but with McQueen’s track record to date, TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE is a project to keep an eye on.
