A ‘Django Unchained’ Director’s Cut Is Reportedly On The Way

Sony/YouTube

He’s got a brand new movie coming to cinemas this year with Once Upon A Time In Mexico, which may or may not make it to this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but Quentin Tarantino is in the news over the past few days because of two of his earlier films, The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained. The news comes in an interview that Quentin Tarantino did with /Film which was predominantly to clear up any confusion as to why The Hateful Eight has hit Netflix in an extended, four-part version.

Speaking to the site, the filmmaker said that Netflix approached him in regards to The Hateful Eight and putting out an extended version in four parts. “Netflix came to us and said, ‘Hey, look, if you’d be interested…If there’s even more footage, if you’d be interested in putting it together and in a way that we could show it as three or four episodes, depending on how much extra footage you have, we’d be willing to do that,'”Tarantino said. The mini-series version is now available with each of the four parts running at around 50 minutes in length.

But it seems that Tarantino may not be done there. Once he’s released his next film, which starts to roll out in July, we might be getting a longer, extended version of Django Unchained too.

It seems that Django Unchained Jamie Foxx/ Leonardo DiCaprio-led film won’t be released in the same way that The Hateful Eight has on Netflix. Also speaking with /Film, Tarantino said that [Django] “would just work better as one movie. Just a longer one as far as I was concerned. So I’ve actually done that. We’re just kind of waiting some time after Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, and we’ll release that eventually.”

I urge you to visit the links above for more. The legendary filmmaker speaks about his next film, the stage in which it is at in terms of post-production and the planned Star Trek movie which may be still on the cards too.

Whether it hits Cannes or not, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is definitely hitting cinemas in the summer. We can’t wait.
