Only days after THE HUNGER GAMES trailer hit the Internet, sources are reporting that Lionsgate are already discussing a sequel. The studio is apparently looking to enlist Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy to adapt ‘Catching Fire’, the second of the three books on which THE HUNGER GAMES is based.
If he agrees to come on board, Beaufoy will replace director Gary Ross and original novellist Suzanne Collins on screenplay duties. Beaufoy is best known for penning SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, THE FULL MONTY, and 127 HOURS.
THE HUNGER GAMES is set in a Dystopian future where each yeat 12 districts offer up a youngster to particpate in a televisied fight for survival. Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss, the plucy heroine who volunteers for the deadly games in place of her younger sister.
THE HUNGER GAMES co-stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, and Liam Hemsworth. It arrives in UK cinemas March 2012.
