It seems an age since Jeremy Renner appeared as notorious serial killer Jeffery Dahmer in what was the actors first lead role, since then Renner had given great support in the likes of S.W.A.T., 28 WEEKS LATER and THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD. It wasn’t until his lead role in Oscar winning war-drama THE HURT LOCKER did studios take notice and see him as a leading man with a credible presence to hold his own.
Brilliant work in Ben Affleck’s ace crime-thriller THE TOWN eventually lead to offers for major supporting roles in upcoming big-budget franchises MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, THE AVENGERS as well as taking over from Matt Damon’s now iconic role of Bourne set-universe THE BOURNE LEGACY. Speaking to Empire, Renner spoke as to what we can expect to see in the currently filming sequel:-
My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, THE BOURNE LEGACY has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.
And when asked whether the plot will involve the same sinister Treadstone style government operatives the actor noted:-
Yeah, it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.
Writer of the three previous Jason Bourne films, Tony Gilroy, takes over from the departing Paul Greengrass as director of THE BOURNE LEGACY.
