Ari Aster’s ‘Midsommar’ Gets The ’18’ Rating From The BBFC

It is very rare that the 18 rating is dished out in the UK these days, but it has been confirmed that Ari Aster (Hereditary) movie Midsommar, which is due in just a couple of weeks, has been give the 18 rating by the BBFC.

The BBFC website was updated on Wednesday with the official rating for the film, the 18-rating, the highest in the UK, given for ‘strong gory images’. The news was also posted on the BBFC’s official Twitter.

Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Liv Mjönes, and Julia Ragnarsson lead the cast of the horror film, which revolves around a couple who travel to Sweden to visit a rural mid-summer festival organised by a pagan cult.

Stateside, the film has officially been given an R-rating, the equivalent rating to the 18 certificate, by the MPAA. It is rated R due to ‘Disturbing ritualistic violence, grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language.

The film releases on 5th July.
