It’s hard to believe that The Dark Crystal entered cinemas nearly 37 years ago in December of 1982. The film, directed by the golden pairing of Jim Henson and Frank Oz, did, in the end, manage to turn a profit, but it landed in cinemas during a month when another HUGE family movie was playing; Steven Spielberg’s colossal E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial.
The Dark Crystal has, over the years, become a huge fan favourite, and in just a couple of weeks, Netflix will bring a special sequel series to our screens, The Dark Crystal: The Age Of Resistance.
With well over three decades between releases, Netflix has clearly identified that there may need to be a little reminder before they throw the sequel at us, so have released a new ten-minute video titled ‘What Is The Dark Crystal? Everything You Need To Know,’ aimed at new and old fans alike.
Official synopsis:
Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
