HBO/Sky Atlantic/ YouTube

This weekend sees this year’s Emmy awards take place in a glittering ceremony in Hollywood. The vent celebrates the best in television and this year celebrates its 71st edition. Here, we look at the shows and stars who we think will walk away with a coveted statuette on the big night, this coming Sunday.

Since it started nearly a decade ago, Game Of Thrones has dominated proceedings at the Emmys, taking in a record-breaking 14 nominations over the years. The show, which ended back in May, is nominated once again this year in the prestigious Best Drama Series category, but it is up against some stiff competition.

BBC series Bodyguard is one such mini-series up for the same award. The Richard Madden-led show about a bodyguard who is protecting a member of the British parliament, is an outsider for the gong, but it is a suberb series worthy of its place amongst the eight that have made the shortlist.

Also in the category is Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, the Netflix crime series Ozark, Pose, This Is Us, and Succession. The hot favorite, according to TopBet.eu though is the BBC drama Killing Eve, a break-out hit across the world and the one to beat on the big night. Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh are nominated for the series too, up against one another in the Best Actress In A Drama Series, at the moment Sandra Oh the fave to take the award.

In the actor category, again for drama, Jason Bateman is the man to beat for his role in Ozark. He may get a little competition Billy Porter whose role in Pose is also hotly tipped for the big night.

In comedy, the best bet at the moment is the brilliant political series Veep, closely followed by Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Also nominated in the category which may stand a chance are Barry, British comedy Fleabag, Netflix’s Russian Doll, The Good Place, and Schitt’s Creek.

In the comedy actor category, it looks like Michael Douglas is the man to beat at the moment for his role in the Netflix series The Kominsky Method, though Bill Hader stands a big chance for his role in Barry. The comedy actress field is also a tight race with Julia Louis-Dreyfus the top pick at the moment for Veep, closely followed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Fleabag.

The awards will be dished out on Sunday 22nd September at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Come back then to see who won big on the night.
