Bingeworthy TV Series For The Hopelessly Competitive

Your friends don’t understand it, your family doesn’t either, but there is something in you that strives to win at all costs. If you are part of the group of people who just can’t seem to control that competitive streak, then finding something on television to scratch that itch is something you should consider.

Whether you root for the lion chasing the gazelle, or the game show contestant on the verge of winning a million (let’s not even mention sports teams!), these are some titles that you should add to your binge list.

Tilt, 2005, ESPN

There are many methods for depositing to online poker sites. Some people prefer one over another, but one thing is for sure, all of them will leave you feeling an awful lot safer than Don Everest did in the opening game sequence of Tilt. This first game sequence introduces us to Don, also known as The Matador, and wastes no time letting us know that everyone around the table has a score to settle with him.

The rest of the series follows the scandalous schemes that the characters undertake to come out on top at the World Championship of Poker. Whether you side with the good guys or the bad guys, you’ll be standing up and shouting at the TV, we guarantee it.

Race to London, 2012, ABC1

If you enjoyed the recent release of Rising Phoenix, a documentary that dives into the history of the Paralympic games, then make sure to check out Race to London. This TV series was made for ABC1 and followed six Olympic and Paralympic athletes as they trained for the year leading up to the 2012 games. The series is very much a ‘warts and all’ account, showing not just their successes but also their setbacks.

Watching athletes reach the peaks of human performance is bound to be incredible, but seeing the trajectory over the space of a year is something special. Anyone with even half a heart will find themselves fighting back tears as they watch these sportspeople turn their low points from potential disasters into steep learning curves.

Billions, 2016, Showtime

The world of high finance is enormously competitive, and Billions keeps us on our toes in every single episode

If making mega millions is where your competitive streak lies, then Billions is a series that you can’t afford to miss. Although hundreds of smaller stories play out throughout the series, the main plot-line follows Bobby Axelrod. Bobby is a hedge fund manager who uses aggressive, and sometimes illegal, tactics to get ahead in the world of high finance.

Despite this, it is hard not to feel yourself rooting for Bobby as he comes up against Attorney Chuck Rhoades, for some of the questionable business decisions he has made. The series has been going on for five seasons now and shows no sign of stopping. Along its journey, it has been nominated for plenty of awards and it isn’t hard to see why. Brian Koppelman’s writing is, as always, realistic and gripping in equal measures.
