Interview: Jake Ryan and John Tui for ‘Savage’

The film lands in cinemas this week.

One of the best film’s we’ve seen for a little while is New Zealand drama Savage, Sam Kelly‘s feature directorial debut which opens in cinemas this Friday. Jake Ryan headlines the cast as Damage, an imposing street gang member who we meet at three defining points in his life. Lining up alongside him is Moses, played by John Tui, a fellow member who also feature across the movie’s three distinctive chapters.

Inspired by the true stories of New Zealand’s street gangs across 30 years, SAVAGE retraces the footsteps of one of its founding members at three different critical moments in his life. Torn between his biological family and the gang he now calls his own, Danny has to make a choice.

We caught up with both Jake and John to talk about the impactful feature. They talk about finding their respective characters, working with writer and director Sam Kelly and much more. You can check out the interview below.

Savage opens in UK and Irish cinemas on 11th September.
