Trailer: ‘My Salinger Year’ with Margaret Qualley, Sigourney Weaver

The film opened this year’s Berlinale.

The trailer for My Salinger Year, the drama which opened this year’s Berlinale has just dropped. Margaret Qualley leads the cast alongside Sigourney Weaver, Douglas Booth, Seána Kerslake, Colm Feore and Brían F. O’Byrne. Philippe Falardeau directs the film which follows a colleg garduate who scores a job at a top literary agency in New York, the one which represents the reclusive writer J.D. Salinger.

In New York City in the late ‘90s, Joanna (Margaret Qualley) is a young aspiring writer who lands a day job at J.D. Salinger’s literary agency. While her eccentric, old-fashioned boss Margaret (Sigourney Weaver) assigns her to answer Salinger’s voluminous fan mail, Joanna struggles to find her own voice.

I wrote in my review that ‘My Salinger Year strikes the right balance in terms of tone, offering just the right amount of drama and humour throughout, the viewer engaged for its complete 100-minute or so run time. It handles the inclusion of Salinger himself well, while also keeps a certain mystery to the reclusive figure. I’ll carefully offer the cliche that My Salinger Year is like a good book; a film to let yourself be absorbed by, a massive calling card for rising star Qualley.’

The film is starting to roll out in various territories from next month. Here’s the trailer.
