New ‘Willy Wonka’ film in the works over at Warner Brothers

Coming to the screen in 2023.

A new film based around the characters in Roald Dahl’s classic children’s story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is said to be in the works over at Warner Bros. Pictures. The film has a director attached in Paul King (Paddington) and even has a release date set; 17th March 2023.

Variety reports the news that David Heyman, who produced the ‘Paddington’ movies as well as the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, will produce the new ‘Willy Wonka’ movie for the studio with a screenplay being prepped by Simon Rich (An American Pickle) and Simon Farnaby.

The trade says that the new film will be a prequel, focussing on the earlier years of Wonka, made famous in the two adapted movies from the book, the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Tim Burton’s much later Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) with Johnny Depp in the lead.

There is no casting info at this early stage, though there are some rumours out there that both Timothee Chalamet and Tom Holland are being considered for the main role of Wonka. We’ll keep you posted of an new bits of info that come our way.
