A brief look at M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old’ – about a beach which makes you age faster

Coming to cinemas this summer.

“It’s only a matter of time”. Here’s a look at a film that I had not heard of prior to receiving the press release overnight. M. Night Shyamalan’s Old is described as a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.

The film is actually based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters, and stars Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Abbey Lee, Aaron Pierre, Kathleen Chalfant, Alexa Swinton, Nolan River, Kylie Begley, Embeth Davidtz, Eliza Scanlen, Alex Wolff, Emun Elliott, and Thomasin McKenzie.

Shyamlan directs and adapts from the source material.

Shooting on this one was completed late last year in the Dominican Republic, so this is the first time that Shyamalan has shot a movie entirely outside Philadelphia.

From what we can tell, the film has a tentative release set for July – deep in the summer season. What more could you want from a summer horror movie from one of the modern masters of the genre. Something tells me this isn’t going to be that relaxing to watch.

Here’s the new big game spot from over the weekend.
