Dogwoof has announced that IWOW: I Walk On Water the new film from Khalik Allah is set for release later this month. The documentary will land on-demand from 26th February. The film is described as a genre-busting, meditative, visual diary which returns him to the streets of Harlem, New York. Spanning over 200 minutes, mixing different filming and photography mediums, the film continues Allah’s deeply personal work on outsiders, separation, and relationships.
Following his film Black Mother (2018), which took him on a spiritual journey to Jamaica, Allah returns to 125th Street and Lexington Avenue in East Harlem where he reconnects with his city and his friends. There’s Frenchie, a 60-something schizophrenic, homeless Haitian man; former girlfriend and fellow filmmaker Camilla; legendary hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy; members of the Wu-Tang Clan, and his mother. We eavesdrop in his conversations, getting pulled into Allah’s histories, philosophies, and vulnerabilities. An hallucinogenic dear-diary, IWOW: I Walk On Water is an unforgettable audio-visual journey.
Here’s a trailer for the film.
