So, it’s official. After months of speculation, Creed III is officially moving ahead with Michael B. Jordan returning as the title character of Adonis Creed, and as director. The film, according to Deadline, will release in cinemas in late 2022; Thanksgiving (late November) to be specific. The Creed III movie will be written by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin, based on an outline by Ryan Coogler, according to the source. Tessa Thompson will return, as well as Phylicia Rashad, so says the trade.
This is great news. The first two movies, spin-offs from the Rocky franchise and both featuring Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character of Rocky Balboa, are excellent, great films in their own right, and I’m sure the third will be no different, especially with Jordan in front, and indeed behind the camera for the first time.
In a statement posted on Deadline late on Wednesday, Jordan said: “Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. Creed III is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of Creed III are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”
There is no news as to whether Stallone will return for the Creed III movie, or which fighter Adonis will go up against. Looking around the web, rumours have surfaced that an opponent could have something to so with Clubber Lang, the ‘villain’ from, Rocky III. Perhaps an offspring of the famous character played by Mr. T? Would love to see ‘T’ come back to the big-screen in some capacity.
