New trailer and poster for celebrated drama ‘First Cow’

The film lands on MUBI on 28th May.

Here’s a new trailer and poster for a film that I cannot wait to see. It feels like First Cow has been on my radar for years now – well, it actually has as we first got wind of this a the Berlinale in 2020. For whatever reason, I didn’t catch it at that festival – and still haven’t seen it, despite it already being available in some territories. Well, it finally comes to the UK via MUBI in May, and this is the latest and probably last look at it prior to that release.

Kelly Reichardt (Meek’s Cutoff, Wendy and Lucy) directs the film, which is described as a gripping and glorious story of friendship and petty crime in the Old West.

A taciturn loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has traveled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune. Soon the two collaborate on a successful but precarious cake-making business, the longevity of which is reliant upon the clandestine participation of a wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow – the very first, and only, in the territory.

First Cow screened at the Locarno Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and competed for that Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival. It won Best Film at the 2020 New York Film Critics Circle Awards, and last month was nominated for three Film Independent Spirit Awards including Best Feature and Best Director.

It will release on MUBI on 28th May.

Here’s the new trailer.
