New ‘Master and Commander’ movie reportedly on the way

Russell Crowe led the cast of the 2003 movie adaptation of ‘Master and Commander’

Deadline is reporting that a new film set in the Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World series is reportedly in the works with A Monster Calls scribe Patrick Ness adapting the Patrick O’Brian source material. The trade says that the planned project is in the very early stages of development and there isn’t anyone attached to the project acting-wise at the moment.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was released back in 2003 to huge acclaim. Russell Crowe led the cast of the movie as Captain Jack Aubrey who led a team during Napoleonic Wars to search for a missing French war vessel. The movie garnered ten Oscar nominations and took in over $200 million at the global box-office.

No news on which of O’Brian’s many novels will be adapted but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
