Trailer for the brilliant ‘The Toll’ starring Michael Smiley

The first trailer for The Toll, a film that I have actually seen (and loved) has dropped online courtesy of Empire in an online trailer debuting exclusive. This one played as part of the Glasgow Film Festival (where I saw it), and will release on digital at the end of August.

First, the official synopsis:

The Toll is a hugely entertaining, irresistibly clever and darkly-comic Welsh crime caper, reminiscent of the Coen brothers’ finest work. The film stars Michael Smiley (Kill List, Luther), Annes Elwy (Little Women), Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) and Paul Kaye (The Ghoul). On the Pembrokeshire border, a man (Michael Smiley: Kill List, Luther) working solo shifts in the quietest toll booth in Wales, hides from a criminal past where nobody would ever look. As his criminal past catches up with him and his peace is shattered, he enlists the help of local ne’er-do-wells and oddballs (including a female Elvis impersonator, rampaging triplets and disgruntled sheep farmers) when village police officer Catrin (Annes Elwy: Little Women) grows increasingly suspicious…

The Toll was written by Matt Redd and directed by Ryan Andrew Hooper and my review called the impressive film ‘a remarkable first feature work featuring a brilliant ensemble cast clearly relishing in the material. A darkly humorous, hugely enjoyable comic western that will leave most more than satisfied.’

You can check out my full review here, and the new trailer below. Check out The Toll on digital from 27th August.
