THE GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING and HANNIBAL RISING director Peter Webber is currently in pre-production with his latest film EMPEROR, which now appears to have snared one of its leads. LOST and SPEED RACER star Matthew Fox is set to join the cast as General Bonner Fellers, a decorated soldier and Japanese expert who aided General Douglas MacArthur during the Japanese surrender of World War II.
EMPEROR is based on an epic true story and will explore the love affair between Fox’s character and a Japanese exchange student during one of the country’s most turbulent times. The film’s producer, Gary Foster commented:
‘We are thrilled to be working with Matthew Fox who is a fine actor and whose maturity and appeal fits perfectly with our film’s aesthetic.’
Fox will also soon be seen in Brad Pitt’s zombie epic WORLD WAR Z and the latest Alex Cross detective thriller I, ALEX CROSS, with Tyler Perry taking over from Morgan Freeman after previous efforts ALONG CAME A SPIDER and KISS THE GIRLS.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
