Sienna Guillory is one of the most consistent actors working. Not afraid to jump head-first into new projects, Guillory’s career traverses all genres and budgets. Perhaps best known for playing iconic video-game character Jill Valentine in Paul W. S. Anderson Resident Evil, she also starred in all three seasons of Fortitude, and has appearances in Eragon, Luther, High-Rise and most recently, Clifford the Big Red Dog. This is just a small microcosm of the breadth of her projects with her more recent venture, A Banquet, being further evidence of her incredible range and keen eye for a compelling project.
In A Banquet, Guillory plays recently bereaved wife Holly. Whilst struggling to cope with the void left by her husband’s death, Holly must still be a present mother to her two teenage daughters Betsey (Jessica Alexander) and Isabelle (Ruby Stokes). Holly is then pushed to breaking after her Betsey develops an extreme eating disorder. Betsey makes claims that she has experienced a profound enlightenment where her body is in service to a higher power. Possessed by Betsey’s illness, her family are faced with an agonising dilemma, torn between love and fear, and Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own belief.
A Banquet has been touring the festival circuit, arriving at Glasgow Film Festival on the 5th and 6th March, ahead of a simultaneous in-cinema and on-digital platform UK release on 11th March. In the run-up to the release, we sat down with Sienna to talk about the film and her role in more depth, whilst also taking the opportunity to check how production on her next project, The Meg 2: The Trench, is going.
