We’re hearing that the planned Wicked movie will actually be two films with their release dates set for a year apart. The films, according to the film’s director, Jon M. Chu, will release stateside on Christmas Day 2024 and Christmas Day 2025.
A prequel to the classic The Wizard Of Oz, Wicked has been a huge hit on stage all over the world for many years and a film version has been in the offing for quite some time.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo will play the lead roles of Glinda and Elphaba in the movie, the stage version for which has music and lyrics from Stephen Schwartz. Along with Winnie Holzman, Schwartz is writing the screenplay for the big screen version.
Here’s the update from Chu himself, as posted to Twitter this week.
