Fede Alvarez’s THE EVIL DEAD remake will begin shooting in New Zealand in March and it appears the cult and lovable lead character Ash (previously played by the amazing Bruce Campbell) will now be female. ABDUCTION and MIRROR, MIRROR actress Lily Collins will take over the role, which will see her play an in-reform drug addict, using the cabin in the woods as a detox. Her character will also have a name change (with Mia being currently preferred), possibly to try a distance the remake from the cult classic original and make it a standalone fright flick in its own right.
The original director Sam Raimi will serve as producer alongside long term partner Robert Tapert. Alverez will direct from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues and revisions by Oscar-winning JUNO and JENNIFER’S BODY scribe Diablo Cody.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
