Arrow Video FrightFest is just around the corner. The event will run from Thursday 26th August – Monday 29th August and will host over seventy films that champion the dark heart of cinema. One film screening at FrightFest is Mean Spirited. Directed by Jeff Ryan, Mean Spirited will receive its world premiere at the festival and is sure to wow those that seek it out.
When two estranged friends reconnect, things buried deep down are bound to surface. Wannabe famous vlogger Andrew Castellano, aka ‘The Amazing Andy’ (Will Madden), sets off for a weekend with his former friend-turned-famous-actor, Bryce (Jeff Ryan). After receiving the invitation to Bryce’s mountain cottage, Andy has decided to bury the hatchet. Unfortunately Bryce isn’t quite himself anymore…
A thoroughly entertaining found-footage horror comedy, Mean Spirited has plenty to please the genre-loving crowd. Presented as an episode from Andy’s show – Mean Spirited – the film charts the escapades of the group as their weekend becomes gradually more unhinged. It taps into the likes of Spree and The Last Exorcism whilst at the same time exploring the bonds of friendships.
Having co-directed films in the past, Mean Spirited marks Jeff Ryan’s solo directorial debut. In addition to directing, Ryan co-wrote the script with Joe Adams, and also stars as Andy’s frenemy Bryce. With so many responsibilities on the project Ryan was the perfect person to speak to for a little more information about Mean Spirited. Ahead of the world premiere THN spoke with the multi-talented filmmaker to uncover just how Mean Spirited came into being, the power and pain of friendships, and the reason why the FrightFest family should seek it out.
Mean Spirited screens at Arrow Video FrightFest on Sunday 28th August at 1:15pm. Tickets for Mean Spirited can be purchased by heading to the FrightFest website here.
