There’s going to be a sequel to ‘Searching’ titled ‘Missing’

We’re hearing that a sequel to 2018’s Searching starring John Cho is getting a sequel through Sony’s Screen Gems. Titled Missing, the planned film will star Storm Reid, Nia Long, Joaquim de Almeida, Tim Griffin, Daniel Henney, and Amy Landecker and come to screens in 2023.

The first film was constructed just by using computer/ device screens and was really rather inventive. The new one will also follow the same format and land on screens in the US at least, on 24th February 2023.

There are no plot details for the new one yet though as they are all being kept under wraps, though it has been said that a whole new set of characters will be involve and Cho won’t return.

Searching was made for sub $1 million and made over $75 million at the box-office, so was hugely profitable. Not surprising a new one is planned.  Missing will be written and directed by Nick Johnson and Will Merrick, from a story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.

Searching director and Missing producer Chaganty had the following to say in a statement: “With such restrictive visual parameters, a movie like [Missing] requires a fresh visual style to separate it from the original. I’ve contributed what I can to this growing sub-genre. But if there’s anyone on the planet with the potential to take it even further, it’s Nick and Will, who were there from the beginning.”

With a release date so imminent, we presume that shooting/ production is well on its way.

Looking forward to this. More as it comes in.
