Ryan Reynolds is one of the leading actors in Hollywood, and is now in the world over as Deadpool, the mercenary with a mouth, and a propensity for breaking the fourth wall. However, not every role that the actor has touched has received such universal acclaim as Deadpool. Every actor has their fair share of roles that are underrated, and it’s important to acknowledge the strengths as well as the weaknesses of actors to appreciate them fully. Let’s talk about three of the most underrated Ryan Reynolds performances.
Mississippi Grind
In 2015, Ryan Reynolds starred in a film called Mississippi Grind. It was a comedy drama film about two gamblers who wind up going on a major road trip to try and win it big. It’s a nice film, and it has quite a lot of hearts, and it’s easy to see how it inspired people to try out some casino games online at Casumo. You can clearly tell that Ryan Reynolds is having some fun doing it and is a refreshing change of pace from the superhero movies that we often see the actor play.
Green Lantern
And it’s definitely become normal for people across the web to point and laugh at the 2011 Green Lantern movie. Ryan Reynolds plays the titular character, Green Lantern, who, in his civilian life, is test pilot Hal Jordan.
The film was launched with high expectations from DC, who felt that it could launch an entire franchise of films. While it is true that the film didn’t quite perform as well as it could’ve done, to dismiss it completely isn’t really fair.
Ryan Reynolds is clearly enjoying himself as the Green Lantern, and you must remember that the film launched in a time where superhero movies hadn’t really found their creative flow just yet. There wasn’t really a set formula for how to do superhero movies, with The Avengers still a year off at the time of release, so all things considered, it wasn’t a bad attempt. Yes, it has its flaws, but most major superhero movies do.
RIPD
In 2013, Ryan Reynolds starred alongside legendary actor Jeff Bridges in a film called RIPD. In the film, Reynolds plays a cop who is killed in the line of duty, and then brought back into a sort of limbo to serve as a police officer for the ghost version of the NYPD. It’s a lot of fun, with Reynolds catching criminals across the embodiment of limbo, and it’s not necessarily one of his most well-known performances, but it’s quite a successful one.
Final Thoughts
So, when Ryan Reynolds isn’t breaking the fourth wall and tempting Hugh Jackman out of Wolverine retirement, it’s clear that the actor has a lot of roles to his name. It’s nice when we can see that he’s not just a superhero. Ryan Reynolds is a serious actor and can perform in a role that has some weight to it, which is always nice.
