As I type this, Top Gun: Maverick has sailed past the $1.4 billion mark in terms of box-office revenue, easily making it the biggest film of 2022. Now, as the film hits the physical home release formats – even though it is still playing in some cinemas – the sequel, some 35-plus years in the making, will reach even more audiences. Earlier this week, we caught up with one of the film’s stars, Monica Barbaro, who plays Phoenix in the movie, to chat about making the film, and the aftermath now that the dust has, well, almost settled.
Barbaro plays the role of Lt. Natasha Trace (call sign: Phoenix) in the hit film, just one of the new ‘Top Gun’ recruits who are taken under the wing of Tom Cruise’s Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell to train for a top-secret, hugely dangerous mission against a new foreign superpower.
The film is released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K On Monday 31st October, so, ahead of the release, we chatted with Monica, talking about her role, what the whole experience is like and that all-important big question: would she be up for more adventures in the sky.
