As the nation’s favourite baking show reaches its climax, a more scientific approach to food arrives in cinemas. The Menu is set within the exclusive atmosphere of high end molecular cuisine – about as far away from the cosiness of the Bake Off tent as you can get.

The first film in ten years from ‘Succession’ director Mark Mylod, it’s a savage combination of satire, comedy and thriller with a group of wealthy diners gathered to enjoy the precision cuisine of a world-famous chef played by Ralph Fiennes. What promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience turns into an unforgettable night for everybody concerned, but in a totally different way.

In this exclusive interview, Mylod talks about his boot camp approach to making sure everything in the kitchen was 100% accurate, as well as imitating his cinematic hero, Robert Altman, by gathering together an ensemble cast that also includes Nicholas Hoult, Anya Taylor-Joy, Reed Birney and Janet McTeer. And he confesses that, even though his respect for the chefs in the industry grew enormously while making the film, he is still very much a cheeseburger guy.

The Menu is released in cinemas on Friday, 18 November.
