Interview: Aaron B. Koontz Discusses Anthology Sequel ‘Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge’

Through his company, Paper Street Pictures, Aaron B. Koontz is one of the hardest working film producers in the horror genre. This year alone the company has had a hand in the creation of Old Man, Blood Relatives, Sorry About the Demon, and Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge. The latter is a sequel to 2019’s Scare Package, a horror anthology made for die-hard genre fans. Along with Cameron Burns, Koontz co-created the idea, and he also directed one of the segments. This tradition continues with Koontz orchestrating the connective tissue of the anthology by directing the anthology staple ‘wraparound’ story.

When horror guru Rad Chad Buckley’s funeral turns into an elaborate series of death traps centred around Chad’s favourite films, the guests must band together and use the rules of horror to survive the bloody game. Starring Jeremy King, Zoe Graham, Kelli Maroney, and Graham Skipper, amongst a ton of other talent, Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge is a lot of gooey, gooey fun.

After debuting at Arrow Video FrightFest, Scare Package II toured the festival circuit, entertaining crowds all across the globe. The film now reaches its final destination as it lands on Shudder on Thursday 22nd December. It’s the perfect film to spend the holidays with as it is that wonderful mix of gross-out gore, rib-tickling laughs, and the occasional scare. By being an anthology, and broken up into mini segments, the film also makes for an easy watch, which is perfect for seasonal food coma viewings.  Ahead of the release, THN caught up with Aaron B. Koontz to dig a little deeper into the film’s creation. We spoke about the joy of practical effects on set, the bamboozling timeline of the Saw franchise, and when audiences can expect Scare Package III.

Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge is available exclusively on Shudder from 22nd December 2022.
