The debut feature from director Victoria Fiore, Nascondino (Hide & Seek) has had a release date set for UK cinemas from January 20th, so says an official press release.
The documentary received its World Premiere at the 2021 BFI London Film Festival, was shortlisted for its Grierson Award, and was produced with the support of the BFI Doc Society Fund (awarding National Lottery funding) and Film Commission Regione Campania.
Here’s a bit more about it.
In response to rising levels of youth criminality, the Italian justice system has operated under a policy that allows courts to remove high-risk children from families involved in organised crime. At risk is Entoni, a rambunctious 10-year-old boy living every day as if it were his last. Watching over him is his grandmother Dora, a former criminal who fears he is falling into the pattern she started and which Entoni’s imprisoned father has continued. Produced over the course of four years, Nascondino tackles the brutality and chaos of these lives through a beautifully cinematic lens, blurring the line between truth and fiction. True events, recollections and recreations blend seamlessly to expand the documentary genre.
More as it comes our way.
