A trailer has dropped for Punch, an upcoming drama starring Tim Roth and Jordan Oosterhof hailing from New Zealand. The film has had some traction on the festival circuit and I actually managed to catch this at the recent Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival over in Estonia.
The film also played the 2022 New Zealand Film Festival and is directed and written by Welby Ings.
The synopsis is as follows:
Jim is a promising teenage boxer, training under the watch of his demanding and alcoholic father. When Jim develops a relationship with a male classmate, the two are forced to navigate isolation, homophobia, and the brutality of small-town life. As he discovers what it means to be gay, he realizes how little strength has to do with heroism.
This one doesn’t have a UK release as yet, but it will get a debut on VOD and in cinemas from 10th March.
Here’s the trailer.
