Vertigo Releasing has picked up the Berlinale big hit Reality for the UK and Ireland. I caught the film in Berlin last month and absolutely loved it.
The film comes to the screen from first-time director Tina Satter, and stars Sydney Sweeney (White Lotus, Euphoria). The film tells the true story of Reality Winner, an American citizen who was given the longest-ever imposed sentence for the unauthorized release of government information to the media. Adapted from Satter’s 2019 stage play Is This a Room, the script is directly based on the FBI transcripts of Winner’s grueling interrogation, with Sweeney delivering a knockout performance as the real-life whistle-blower.
I said the following of the feature: “A brilliantly staged chamber piece and a great slice of real-life storytelling told from a unique angle.” You can read my full review of the film from Berlin here.
