Focus Features has delivered a first-look trailer for The Holdover, the new film from celebrated filmmaker Alexander Payne. The film will be released on screens later this year and is Payne’s first film in six years since 2017’s Downsizing. Paul Giamatti leads the cast.
The story for this one is as follows:
From acclaimed director Alexander Payne, THE HOLDOVERS follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually he forms an unlikely bond with one of them — a damaged, brainy troublemaker (newcomer Dominic Sessa) — and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).
Stateside, the film will get a limited release in cinemas on October 27, 2023, followed by a wide release on November 10.
