The Five Shortlisted Names For The Orange Wednesday Rising Star BAFTA are…

This morning, I ventured down to BAFTA HQ in the heart of London’s Piccadilly, to attend the announcement of the short list of nominees for the prestigious Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, the only BAFTA to be voted for by the public. Previous winners include James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, Noel Clarke, Kristen Stewart and Tom Hardy… not a bad bunch to be in the same category as, right?

Long-listed this year by a panel that included Simon Pegg, director David Yates and Sienna Miller are: Adam Deacon, Chris Hemsworth, Felicity Jones, Tom Hiddleston, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris O’Dowd, Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne

Shortly before 10am this morning, the original eight nominees in the category were whittled down to just five, announced in a room full of journalists by BAFTA deputy chair and jury head Pippa Harris.

Those five are: Adam Deacon, Chris Hemsworth, Chris O’Dowd, Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston!

A very male dominated pack I hear you cry. As we said, the award is voted for by the public, and you can get involved with that over here. The winner will be announced with all of the other winners on the day of the awards bash, which is Sunday 12th February 2012. As usual, THN will be there with all of the coverage that you need… so check back as that date gets nearer for all of the latest.

Below is a small video featurette of today’s announcement, produced for you, by us. Ahhh….

Hmmm. How shall we whittle the long-list? Oh, that’s easy then–we’ll just ELIMINATE the WOMEN. There.
