Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘The Boy and the Heron’ teaser trailer arrives

Check out this brand new teaser for Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, the new animated feature coming to cinemas soon. The film will debut at TIFF – the Toronto International Film Festival this week and will head to screens later in the year.

Masaki Suda, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Sh?hei Hino, Ko Shibasaki, and Takuya Kimura lend their voices for the film which has already had a debut in its native Japan.

TIFF has the following synopsis available for the film.

During WWII, young Mahito Maki (Soma Santoki) suffers a heartbreaking family tragedy and must move immediately to the countryside, where his father (Takuya Kimura) works for a family making planes for Japan’s military, as Miyazaki’s own father did. Isolated, he begins exploring the mysterious landscapes & encounters a grey heron, persistent in its presence. The boy happens upon an abandoned tower. Curious, he enters. From there, The Boy and the Heron expands into a wondrous, often-startling phantasmagoria.

We’ll have a release date for the UK as soon as possible, but for now here’s the stateside teaser from GKids.
