‘The Prince of Egypt’ musical – theatrical release planned to celebrate 25th anniversary of the animated film

We’re hearing that The Prince Of Egypt musical is getting a theatrical release to celebrate the original animated film’s 25th anniversary. The Dreamworks film was originally released back in 1998 with a stage version first showing in 2015. Since then it has hit the West End of London (where we caught it).

The music is brought to life by Stephen Schwartz’s music, and includes the Oscar-winning song ‘When You Believe’ and Sean Cheesman’s choreography.

Journey through the wonders of Ancient Egypt as two young men, raised together as brothers in a kingdom of privilege, find themselves suddenly divided by a secret past. One must rule as Pharaoh, the other must rise up and free his true people; both face a destiny that will change history forever.

Music and lyrics are by Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell), with a book by Philip LaZebnik (Mulan, Pocahontas). There are 10 new songs written by Stephen Schwartz together with 5 of his beloved songs from the DreamWorks Animation film (the aforementioned When You Believe, Deliver Us, All I Ever Wanted, Through Heaven’s Eyes and The Plagues). The Prince of Egypt was directed for the stage by Scott Schwartz

As per the official website, a series of cinema screenings are set for the UK this October, specifically from the 19th October. There will also be a release on BroadwayHD from November 15 and it will then available to Buy or Rent on Digital from December 5.

Here’s a trailer.
