A full trailer has been delivered for filmmaker J.A. Bayona’s new film, Society of the Snow, a true story about the 1972 plane crash over the Andes. Bayona directs from a screenplay by J.A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, Nicolás Casariego. The material is based upon the book “The Society of the Snow” by Pablo Vierci and is getting some great word of mouth following a run on the festival circuit starting in Venice in September where it had its world premiere.
The synopsis is as follows:
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.
This story has been told before in John Patrick Shanley 1993 movie Alive with Ethan Hawke.
This new retelling of the tragedy arrives on Netflix from 4th January. Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi, Rafael Federman, Fernando Contigiani García, Francisco Romero, Esteban Kukuriczka, Diego Vegezzi, Valentino Alonso, Tomás Wolf, Felipe Otaño, Agustín Della Corte, Andy Pruss, Blas Polidori, Felipe Ramusio, and Simón Hempe are among the cast.
