It has been revealed that iconic filmmaker Martin Scorsese will receive the honourary Golden Bear at February’s Berlin International Film Festival, the Berlinale. The award, the festival’s lifetime achievement, will be handed out at the event in February, according to a press release.
Scorsese’s latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, is still getting acclaim as it continues its theatrical run and debut on premium home release. The feature has been named one of the top 10 films of the year by the American Film Institute, as well as the No. 1 Best Film of 2023 by “The New York Times”, “The New Yorker” and The New York Film Critics Circle.
The 74th Berlin International Film Festival will award US-director, producer and screenwriter Martin Scorsese the Honorary Golden Bear for his lifetime achievement in an award ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 20, 2024.
Last year’s award was presented to Steven Spielberg for his contribution to cinema.
This year’s Berlinale runs from 15-25th February.
