He’s currently the talk of the town in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn which, as well as still playing in some cinemas, is also available on Amazon Prime Video, and now it looks like Jacob Elordi is set to play the monster in Guillermo del Toro’s Dr. Frankenstein. The Dr Frankenstein film has been long in development with del Toro and following delays with the recent strikes, it finally looks like it is set to hit production soon.
The news comes via Deadline who reports that Elordi will replace Andrew Garfield on the high-profile project after he left due to scheduling conflicts. Oscar Isaac is playing the title character of Dr. Frankenstein in the film, alongside Mia Goth with del Toro writing, producing and directing. Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley and Christian Convery are also among the cast of the picture.
Based on the famous Mary Shelley novel, the story revolves around Victor Frankenstein who manages to bring a monster to life following a ground-breaking experiment. It is not known, so says the trade, if the new Dr Frankenstein film will be set in the same period setting as the source novel or in contemporary times.
The film is based on Mary Shelley’s 1816 novel which she wrote the first draft for at the age of just 18.
The book was written in 1816 when Shelley was just 18 years old. It has been retold on stage and screen many times since then, most recently in 2015 with James McAvoy (Victor Frankenstein) and in Sir Kenneth Branagh’s 1990s effort Mark Shelley’s Frankenstein in which he also starred opposite Robert De Niro.
Other film versions include I, Frankenstein (2014), Frankenstein (1931) and dozens of other iterations and spin-offs and off-shoots
Elordi is riding high on the success of Saltburn as well as playing Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s recent Priscilla.
