Nerdist reports the news of the re-release but there is no word as to whether the movie will reach other territories, including the UK.

Released in 1979, Alien is a groundbreaking science fiction film directed by Scott about a space crew aboard the commercial vessel Nostromo who come up against a deadly alien when they run into an abandoned ship.

When the crew of the space-tug Nostromo responds to a distress signal from a barren planet, they discover a deadly life form that breeds within human hosts. Now the crew must fight to stay alive and prevent the creature from reaching Earth. Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver in her breakout performance, this legendary first film in the Alien saga will leave you breathless!

Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto lead the cast.

The Alien re-release comes about a month before the official 45th anniversary of the original movie – it debuted on U.S. screens on 25th May 1979 before heading to UK screens on 1st October that same year. It received the X certificate in the UK which meant that nobody under the age of 16 was able to go and see it. The X certificate became obsolete in 1982 and Alien was badged with the still-in-use 18 certificate. And rightly so, it is one of the scariest films ever made.

The new movie in the series, Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Alvarez, is getting some great buzz and will be released in cinemas all over the world in August of this year.
