Following a premiere at this year’s Berlinale, the new horror film Cuckoo is set for screens later this year and a debut trailer was released just a couple of days ago. Tilman Singer’s film is set to hit U.S. screens through Neon and will land there on 9th August following a Germany release in July.
Hunter Schafer, Jessica Henwick and Dan Stevens lead the cast of the film which was shot on glorious 35mm. I caught this in Berlin and can say that it is a brilliant, very unique genre film well worth checking out. I love that Dan Stevens is finding another area to show off his talents in German cinema and here he delivers another fine performance.
Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.
A UK release is TBC but we’ll keep you posted.
Here’s the new trailer.
