The Substance trailer is here. Well, actually it is a teaser but the big news is that the film also now has a UK release date with it. We announced earlier today that the film is getting a premiere at this year’s FrightFest event in August, closing the 25th edition of the festival.
Starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, this Cannes-premiering horror movie turns toxic beauty culture inside out with a be-careful-what-you-wish-for fable for the ages. It is a belter of a film and I cannot wait to see it again after catching it in Cannes back in May.
A very creative synopsis is below.
Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? You. Only better in every way. Seriously. You’ve got to try this new product: The Substance. IT CHANGED MY LIFE. It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect, you. And there’s only one rule: You share time. One week for you. One week for the new you. Seven days each. A perfect balance. Easy. Right? If you respect the balance… what could possibly go wrong?
Demi Moore is outstanding in this – a career-best (which is what I wrote in The Substance review I posted during Cannes), as is Margaret Qualley and I urge any fans of the genre to check this out at your earliest opportunity. The film has a UK premiere at Edinburgh soon.
A film that is sure to be divisive, The Substance is The Assistant meets Cronenberg by way of Society and Eric Prydz’s ‘Call On Me’ music video, and make no mistake, whatever your stance or interest in the genre, this feature, if you’re planning to see it, is one that has to be seen with an audience.
The Substance trailer is below. MUBI is releasing this one in the UK on 20th September.
