It has to be high on my favourite movies of the ’90s and one of the main contributors to why this website even exists but Robert Rodriguez’s 1994 action-packed Hollywood debut Desperado is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and Arrow are bringing a special edition 4K release to shelves – well, in the U.S. at least.
If you’re unfamiliar with the movie we have the synopsis for you below.
A shadowy figure stalks the Mexican underworld, travelling from town to town with only a guitar case in hand; however, what El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) has on his mind isn’t music, but merciless vengeance. With enough bullets up his sleeves for every bandito in his path, the guitar-playing gunslinger has his sights firmly set on taking down a powerful drug lord (Joaquim de Almeida), but only the love of a local bookstore owner (Salma Hayek) will help the Mariachi get out of town alive.
This is the second part in a trilogy of ‘Mexico’ set films for Rodriguez. It all started with his breakout El Mariachi and concluded with Once Upon A Time In Mexico. This one, though, will always have a special place in my heart.
