STUDIOCANAL are releasing festival breakout The Outrun in UK cinemas later this year but a new U.S. trailer for the movie has just been released by Sony Pictures Classics.
Saoirse Ronan leads the cast of the film which had premieres at both Sundance and the Berlin Film Festivals earlier in the year. System Crasher filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt directs the feature which is based on the memoir by Amy Liptrot.
The film is described as a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival and the power of nature to restore life and renew hope, set in the wild northern Orkney islands. I heard great things about this movie over in Berlin and can’t wait to see it.
After a decade away in London, 29-year-old Rona (Saoirse Ronan) returns home to the Orkney Islands.
Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery.
Slowly the beauty and lore of the land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea.
The Outrun is in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on Friday 27 September 2024 while stateside audiences can catch it from October 4th.
Here’s the new trailer.
