More ‘Sugar’ at Apple ordered; season two on the way

Apple TV+ has ordered a second season of hit show Sugar. Colin Farrell leads the cast of the noir revolving around L.A. detective John Sugar.

The show is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture, and television history: the private detective story. Academy Award-nominee Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar, an American private investigator who, in season one, is on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also unearth Siegel family secrets; some very recent, others long-buried.

The series plays with genres throughout, and I’ll save you from a big twist in proceedings part way through season one.

Also among the cast of season one is Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler and Alex Hernandez.

Sugar is created by Mark Protosevich who also executive produces.

Farrell can currently be seen in Max’s critically applauded new series The Penguin.
