Edward Berger to direct new Bourne movie?

A sixth instalment in the famous franchise could be on the way.

Here’s some news for fans of the Jason Bourne franchise with news that a new Bourne movie may be on the way with All Quiet on the Western front filmmaker Edward Berger behind the camera.

New Bourne movie

News reaches us of a new instalment in the hit spy franchise with Berger writing and directing, as per Production Weekly (via Dark Horizons). The title of the new Bourne movie could be The Bourne Dilemma with Berger riding high off the success of his Oscar-tipped new feature, Conclave. That film stars Ralph Fiennes and revolves around the drama of selecting a new Pope in a Vatican-themed setting. The film has garnered some great reviews at the festivals in which it has already played and will release in cinemas in November.

Now, the big question is whether Matt Damon will return to one of his best known roles, which is set at Universal Pictures. Speaking earlier in the year, the actor appeared on US television, specifically The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and had the following to say about returning to the franchise:

“There’s a great director, Edward Berger, who directed All Quiet On The Western Front,” Damon said. “He said he had an idea, so he’s working on it. I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”

No news on whether Damon has signed on the dotted line yet, though.

Well it sounds like he’s been working on it and the movie could be heading into production soon, if the reports are true. If it does, this will be the sixth film in the franchise following The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, side-qual The Bourne Legacy, in which Damon did not appear, and the last movie to have been released, Jason Bourne.

More on the potential new Bourne movie as news comes our way.
