Tommy Lee Jones Joins Emperor

Last week we brought you the news that LOST and VANTAGE POINT’s Matthew Fox had been confirmed to star as General Bonner Fellers in EMPEROR. HANNIBAL RISING and GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING helmer Peter Webber will direct the historical epic that focuses on the final days of Japan’s surrender of World War II. Now we have confirmation of another cast member joining Fox. Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones will portray the legendary war hero, General Douglas MacArthur.

EMPEROR is said to also have elements of romance running throughout its plot, with Fox’s character falling for a young Japanese exchange student. The uncertainty of the film’s events makes it a dangerous and unpredictable time. All this is happening while a important decision needs to be made – should Emperor Hirohito be tried and executed as a war criminal?

Producer Gary Foster is quoted as saying, of Tommy Lee Jones confirmed involvement:-

‘Tommy will bring strength, intelligence, and gravitas to the portrayal of General Douglas MacArthur, a legendary American hero’

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
