The Crow Remake Back On Track With A New Director

1994’s gothic-hit THE CROW, will always live long in the memory, not just because it is a great film, but the accidental on-set fatal shooting of the films lead and rising star Brandon Lee. Last year it was announced a remake of the 18 year-old film with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct and Bradley Cooper signing on to play the now iconic character of Eric Draven. Plans were soon scrapped when a legal battle broke out, over just who owned the rights to James O’Barr’s source material.

Well it now appears both The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media have settled their differences and decided to produce the film together. They were also quick to announce a new director, with F. Javier Gutierrez taking over from the now unavailable Fresnadillo. Jesse Wigutow is currently in negotiations to pen the screenplay. As for Cooper’s involvement; that remains very doubtful, with his schedule looking rather full. More than likely, a new lead will be sought.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
