Yes, this one is a go for Naomi Watts as she takes on the role of Princess Diana for the upcoming film CAUGHT IN FLIGHT. It’s set to cover the last two years of her life and it will focus on her freedom from the Royal Family and how that allowed her to achieve some major successes as an international campaigner and humanitarian.
It will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel whose previous work includes the final days of Hitler’s life in DOWNFALL and the astute FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN that starred James Nesbitt and Liam Neeson squaring up in a very insightful retrospect in Northern Ireland. Now, we’re not suggesting CAUGHT IN FLIGHT will have the same style of the previous two but it’s definitely going to have the world watching with intrigue to how Hirschbiegel and Watts portray Diana.
The director had this to say about the project: “I am delighted to have such a truly exceptional actress who embodies the warmth, humanity and empathy of such a global icon as Princess Diana.” And earlier, Naomi Watts added: “It is such an honour to be able to play this iconic role – Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”
CAUGHT IN FLIGHT is very much in development at this stage.
