New Shots Of Pitt And Dominik’s Cogan’s Trade

It took seven years for director Andrew Dominik to follow up his brilliant crime-biopic (well…maybe) CHOPPER with THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD. A mouthful of a title, but what a film it was, with possibly one of the most beautiful opening introductions in cinema history. Following the final years of the infamous outlaw, and featuring a terrific cast including Casey Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Sam Rockwell and a possible career-best performance from lead Brad Pitt. To describe the film as ‘epic’ would be doing it an injustice.

Now Dominik and Pitt have teamed-up once again for COGAN’S TRADE, in which Pitt portrays mob enforcer Jackie Cogan. It almost appears to be a film that has slipped under the radar but with a supporting cast that includes James Gandolfini, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta and Scoot McNairy, it looks one of the must-see movies this year. Here we have some images from this thriller that sees Pitt’s Cogan brought in by his mobster boss, to find those responsible for an armed robbery during a poker game.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
